Integrated and Acute General Paediatrics
(With 1:7 resident general paediatrics and neonatal duties)
Do you want to work as an innovative, integrated Paediatric Consultant with a friendly, dynamic team? Please read and enquire about the job role below.
This is a substantive consultant post expected to start in August 2020.
The purpose of this post is to streamline acute patient flow pathways around the clock 7 days a week, thus providing true seven-day consultant supported care. You will also assist the service in maintaining high quality patient pathways post Paediatric NWL SaHF transition.
During the resident night shifts (1 in 7 weeks) you will be supporting one ST 4-8 and two ST1-3 junior doctors. This means that not only will patients get senior decision-making but you will also have the opportunity to supervise and train junior doctors round the clock.
This post has a strong theme of integrated care. They are in line with recent RCPCH Facing the Future Together (2015) strategies and the Nuffield Trust report on the future of child health services and new models of care (2016). You will support and promote well established integrated GP clinics; we aim to foster better communication with our primary care colleagues.
The Paediatric Emergency Department (ED) has completed a £4 million rebuild on June 2016. This has ensured that paediatric emergency care is delivered in modern and purpose built facilities that include a 4 bed Short Stay Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU). The six new cubicles in the paediatric ED include a high dependency area. ED is co-located alongside an urgent care centre currently provided by Greenbrook. Our paediatric ward currently has 24 beds of which 2 are commissioned to deliver HDU care.
The post holder will work with the current team of 6 acute Paediatric consultants in post and 13 consultants providing out patient, neonatal, general paediatric and specialty services.
The post holder will need to have excellent general paediatric and level 2 neonatal skills.
The attending rota for the PAU ward will be 1 in 7 for this post, providing cover from 08.00 to 21.00 hrs Monday, Wednesday and Friday. In addition to the resident night on calls, you will also provide cover to PAU 13.00 to 21.00hrs for 1 in 12 weekends.
These are posts that reflect the transformation in the delivery of integrated child health services within the Borough of Hillingdon. We anticipate further development within our services to ensure a high standard of care.
We are keen to encourage candidates with special interests that are complementary to the department.
The department has been rated as ‘good’ on all domains in the recent 2018 CQC report.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.
